DATE: Victorian, c.1870
A stunning Victorian 14k gold locket, finished in duck egg blue enamel on the back and front. The front features a textured gold and black enamel horseshoe, with a small pearl that sits below. It's hinged down the left hand side and opens to reveal two locket compartments. Dating from the Victorian period, circa 1870 it remains in great condition.
Horseshoes have long been associated with good luck, and has become popular symbol to provide protection. There are many superstitions on which way you should hang a horseshoe, however many choose to hang it facing down, believing that when you walk under it, all the positive vibes will “rain over” them.
