DATE: Late Victorian, c.1900

A fantastic and high quality antique locket pendant, featuring the Queen of Spades finely enamelled to the front. There are many stories, games, superstitions around the Queen of Spades, however the one I like the most involves her symbolism of intelligence, power, as well as a nurturing figure. She is also linked to the Ancient Greek Goddess Hecate- A powerful being associated with magic, with the ability to see the past, present and future.

The enamel is brightly coloured throughout- the figure is finished in gold, red and navy blue upon a bright blue background. The classic spades symbol is in black and, t remains in great condition considering its age. Its crafted in silver throughout and opens to reveal two original photographs which of course can be removed to add your own. Dates to the turn of the century, circa 1900.
