DATE: Art Nouveau, c.1910

A spectacular Toi Et Moi engagement ring dating from the Art Nouveau period, circa 1910. It's set with two stunning stones: a 1.76ct no heat Burma ruby, and a 1.5ct transitional cut diamond (G-VS2) - both certified. The stones are offset on either side of the band, nestled between curved diamond-set shoulders, with an 18 karat gold band and silver settings. The toi et moi theme represents "you and me," and had something of a resurgence in the early 20th Century after it was popularised a century earlier by Napoleon when he proposed to Josephine with a sapphire and diamond example (go look it up, it's awesome).
