Art Deco Diamond & Sapphire Love Struck Heart Brooch
Art Deco Diamond & Sapphire Love Struck Heart Brooch
$4,200.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
A wonderful sapphire and diamond brooch. It's modelled as an open love struck heart, set with an sparkling diamonds and calibre cut sapphires. The combination of colours is gorgeous and each stone is millegrain set. It's crafted in 18k white gold and dates from the Art Deco period, circa 1920.
Nowadays the heart is used to symbolise true love, however the mention of Cupid is typically seen as a cherubic infant wielding a bow and arrow, but this wasn’t always the case. Long before the Romans adopted and renamed him, Cupid was known to the Greeks as Eros, the handsome god of love. In one story from Ancient Greek mythology, Cupid (Eros) shot a golden arrow at Apollo, who fell madly in love (love struck!) with the nymph Daphne, but then launched a leaden arrow at Daphne so she would be repulsed by him.
