Charming 1960s winkle charm in 9 karat gold. The gold has an incredibly finely textured finish, quite lifelike, with a full set of (tiny) Birmingham hallmarks. Winkles, aka Periwinkles, are a small, black, snail-like shellfish that form a traditional part of a British seafood platter. Sold live or cooked, and often by the pint (apparently enough for three or four people), winkles represented a certain working class solidarity - becoming something of a cockney classic. Although they're quite delicious - fresh winkles smell sweetly of the sea - popularity has waned in England over the past few decades.
