DATE: Victorian, c.1900
A remarkable little acorn pendant carved from a single piece of nephrite jade. The colour is a gorgeous mossy green, with good translucency and areas of darker tones. It dates from the Victorian period, circa 1900 with 15k gold leaf fittings.
The acorn is a popular Victorian symbol that is seen in antique jewellery. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” The acorn and oak had many meanings in the 1800s, including stability, strength, and prosperity.
