Victorian Mother of Pearl Fish Pendant

Victorian Mother of Pearl Fish Pendant

$200.00

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1860

Unusual fish pendant dating from the 1860's. It's a hand-crafted piece of mother of pearl with hand carved lines to create the illusion of scales and fins. With its long head and tail, I am unsure on what type of of fish this is... Any guesses? I'm thinking carp.

In ancient China, it was believed that there was a magical carp that was able to swim upstream against the current of the Yellow River and leaped over Dragons Gate waterfall, turning into a magical dragon, hence why the carp is a reminder that we can overcome obstacles and find success.
