Albert Chains were used to suspend pocket watches, and were named after Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert who often wore them. Both Victoria and Albert were considered "fashion trendsetters".
This piece, a classic Albert chain with T-bar and shield fob. It's crafted in sterling silver - 114 grams worth! The curb links are chunky and subtly graduated, and fastens with a silver clasp. The chain dates from the Victorian period, circa 1880 and the later added fob (English hallmarks for Birmingham, 1904) features the registration RD303904 dating the design to 1897. With a 15 inch wearable length, it's sturdy and substantial and looks great worn as a chunky chain necklace.
