DATE: Victorian, 1895

An exceptional Victorian memorial locket formed as a puffed heart shaped padlock. Quite unusually, it both opens to reveal an oval locket compartment, and features black enamel borders around the front and back faces of the heart. With stylised keyhole to the front, and a dedication to the back that reads: "William Munro - Died 30th April  1895". The top bar of the padlock is hinged, opening up at one side (indicating that the original purpose of the pieces was as a bracelet or necklace clasp).
