DATE: Art Deco, c.1920

As much as it looks like a solid gold shotgun shell, this marvel by Van Cleef & Arpels is actually a wonderfully exuberant lipstick holder, complete with (working) flip up watch in the base. Unsure if this makes it a pocketwatch? It dates from the 1920s, crafted in 18 karat gold throughout with a row of channel set sapphires around the base. The quality is, naturally, exceptional featuring fine grooved pattern to the case and a gold band around the inner tube to push the lipstick out.
