Art Deco Egyptian Revival Fringe Necklace

$450.00

Description

DATE: Art Deco, c.1930

In 1922, the British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun triggering a fresh wave of Egyptomania that influenced the Art Deco movement, and writers such as Agatha Christie and Thomas Mann. Egyptian Revival jewellery came back into fashion, and demand for Egyptian-themed pieces such as this one boomed.

An impressive Egyptian Revival necklace dating from the 1930s. It comprises three square panels, double sided, with figures and hieroglyphs over white enamel (the backs feature different scenes in relief). Between panels are white moonstone and abstract scarab drops, suspended on a detailed book chain.
