One of aviation's most iconic logos belongs to Pan American World Airways (known better as Pan Am). The first US airline to fly internationally, for much of the 20th century Pan Am was the main and largest international air carrier, and, apparently, was the unofficial overseas flag carrier of the United States in an era dominated by wholly or majority state owned flag carriers (British Airways, Air France, Aeroméxico, etc). During their peak (1950s through1970s) they were world-renowned for their advanced fleet, highly experienced and trained staff, and abundant amenities.
This charm was made in 1965 (English hallmarks confirm), rendered in 9 karat yellow gold and finished in sky blue enamel.
Fun fact: In 1964 Pan Am took its first reservation for future flights to the moon, from one Gerhard Pistor, a Viennese journalist. The waiting list for its "First Moon Flights Club" eventually grew to an incredible 93,000, with the first flight expected to depart in the year 2000...
