1920s Egyptian Revival Enamel Scarab Charm
$150.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c. 1920
Cool antique scarab beetle charm dating from the 1920s. The British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 triggering a wave of Egyptomania that influenced the Art Deco movement, and writers such as Agatha Christie and Thomas Mann. Egyptian Revival jewellery came back into fashion, and demand for Egyptian-themed pieces such as this one boomed. Crafted in silver, it features a scarab beetle poised atop an oval cartouche with deep royal blue enamelling on its back.
