DATE: Victorian, c.1900
A superb Victorian cobblestone ring, the navette shaped head is set with chunky old mine cut diamonds. It dates from the turn of the century, circa 1900, with pierced openwork to the gallery it rests with a low profile over the finger. A gorgeous statement piece, and the band is crafted in 18k gold.
The term navette - interchangeable with marquise - comes from the French word for a weaver's shuttle, literally "little ship", and are also sometimes referred to as boat rings. This one sits North-South along the finger.
