High Victorian Ruby & Diamond Miser's Purse
$4,700.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1860
An unusual high Victorian Miser's Purse crafted in 9k gold throughout. The main body is composed of interlinked gold hoops, with a hinged top section that opens to grant access, that's set with one ruby cabochon and two old cut diamonds at either side. Its perfectly sized to hold your coins, or even something sentimental to you! Four articulated gold pommels drop from the bottom of the purse, and it features a loop to the back of the top section- for wear on a chain, or just to keep safe!
Miser purses were popular in England and France during the mid 18th century through to the early years of the 20th century. They were used to keep coins safe inside, meaning that it was hard to get the coins out in a hurry - hence the name miser.
