Edwardian Floral "Toi et Moi" Engagement Ring
Edwardian Floral "Toi et Moi" Engagement Ring
$7,250.00
Description
DATE: Edwardian, c.1910
Stunning Edwardian "Toi et Moi" ring with a floral/foliate theme, unlike I've seen before. The two principal stones - the "you" and "me" - are .75ct old European cut diamonds set within a fine millegrain bezel and featuring smaller single cut diamond "petals" and a spray of foliage leading up from the shoulders. Crafted in platinum throughout, with a low profile and open gallery, it was made by hand in the very early 20th century, circa 1910.
Toi et Moi translates literally as "you and me", a deeply romantic sentiment which makes them popular as engagement rings - symbolising two souls becoming one. Napoleon Bonaparte famously gave a sapphire and diamond example to his first wife, Josephine de Beauharnais, and John F Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Onassis with an emerald and diamond example. Personally, I like the all-diamond look, and this one effortlessly infuses the delicacy of the Edwardian era with verging on maximalist design.
