The history of the heart shape diamond can be traced back over 500 years! The first reported mention came from the Duke of Milan, Francesco Sforza where it appeared in a conversation. The Duke described the mythical quests of the wealthy "Cosimo de Medici" of the political dynasty in Florence, as being similar to a heart-shaped diamond. If we are to believe that this conversation took place, then it means that heart shaped diamonds were cut earlier that the 15th century and became known as a symbol of royalty.
Shortly afterwards, in 1562, Mary Queen of Scots sent Queen Elizabeth a beautiful ring with a heart-shaped diamond in it. This is one of the most famous diamond hearts in history and during this period it was thought to be a symbol of friendship as well as goodwill.
