Victorian Silver Memento Mori "Hope, Luck & Death" Pendant

$350.00

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1860

Hope. Luck. Death. Are these the three pillars of life? Whomsoever made this little charm collection certainly seems to be supporting the message. The Georgians and Victorians were, of course, super into the concept of memento mori ("remember you will die"), and these three symbols take it a step further: the classic MM skull and crossbones sits above an anchor for hope, and a four-leaf clover for luck. Dating from the mid Victorian period, circa 1860, they're crafted in sterling silver throughout and complete with the original pendant bail.
