Victorian "Language of Flowers" Book Locket Charm
$650.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1880
Victorian jewellery often includes floral motifs, as part of their "Language of Flowers", whereby each flower or plant represented some romantic or emotional sentiment... In this case, two roses in bloom placed with two buds. According to Kate Greenaway's Language of Flowers book, this means "secrecy". This book locket, blank on the inside, which makes quite a nice sentiment. Maybe given to a secret lover as the flowers represent more than any words could.
It's set with gorgeous green enamel to the front with finely detailed roses. It's crafted in silver, and dates from the Victorian period, circa 1880.
