Incredible Antique Old Mine Pear Diamond & Ruby Snake Ring
Incredible Antique Old Mine Pear Diamond & Ruby Snake Ring
$16,000.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
This incredible snake ring is set with THE most gorgeous old mine pear shaped diamond at its head. Dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1920, this ring is dripping with diamonds and rubies in a fantastic design, showing high craftsmanship by using finely worked platinum and 18k gold to create that wonderful snakey shape. The main stone weighs in at 1.5 carats, and displays a great sparkle from its gorgeous cut- chunky and with a flat culet.
At each point of the stone rests an old mine cut diamond, with four rubies diagonally set giving the impression of piercing red eyes. Further old cuts rest around the edges, while its tail is looped through the snakes mouth- the eternal (ouroboros) loop. It features small pointed teeth at the gap in its head, and the band is smooth and chunky.
Ouroboros is an emblematic serpent of Ancient Egypt and Greece, represented with it's tail in it's mouth, continually devouring itself and being reborn from itself... A symbol that expresses the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation.
