Late Victorian Rose Cut Diamond & Pearl Lobster Brooch
Late Victorian Rose Cut Diamond & Pearl Lobster Brooch
$3,473.14
Description
DATE: Late Victorian, c.1890
A cool antique lobster and oyster shell brooch dating from the late Victorian period, circa 1890. Complete with a fitted box, the lobster is set with glistening rose cut diamonds and ruby cabochon eyes, with silver settings and detailed pincers and legs. The lobster rests upon a brushed gold oyster shell, featuring its prize dreamy pearl set to the centre of it. The crustacean has been widely used in art and designers for many years, and can be seen to symbolize extravagance power, strength and even love. It features fittings (of course) for wear as a brooch, but I think this one also looks great worn as a pendant.
