DATE: Egyptian Revival, c.1930
The Egyptian Revival era of jewellery took place during the Art Deco period, when Tutankhamun's Tomb was discovered, and this piece, a revival of the Diadem of Tutankhamun. The original (currently in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo) was designed to secure the wig of the king during ceremonies and to protect his forehead. It was later found on his mummified body, following the excavation of his tomb.
This Egyptian Revival piece can be worn on the upper and lower arm, and its modelled in silver gilt throughout. Similar to the original diadem, it features hand painted sections and the two protective deities of Upper and Lower Egypt- the vulture goddess, Nekhbet and and the cobra goddess, Wadjet.
