Art Deco Enamel & Pearl Scallop Shell Earrings

$670.00

Description

DATE: Art Deco, c.1920

A lovely pair of clip on scallop shell earrings dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1920. They're crafted in sterling silver with dreamy white enamel shells, and a single pearl in each one. Fertility is associated with the scallop shell, as it's seen in ancient paintings of Venus, the Roman goddess of fertility and love. Venus and her scallop shell demonstrate an embodiment of beauty and grace that defies expectations by managing to maintain a sense of great power. She is often shown coming out of a scallop shell.
