$950.00
Description
DATE: Modern, c.1970
An exquisite vintage wristwatch by Vivianna Torun for Georg Jensen. Made during the 1970s (it's an early one with SN 00527) it's furnished with a mechanical Chopard movement and crafted in stainless steel throughout. Ultra minimalist in design, mirror finish to the dial and every visible surface, and no numbers or markings. The model number is 227, and they were re-issued with quartz movement in the early 2000s with model number 337. Rare to find an original example. Vivianna Torun was born in Sweden in 1927, and is often cited as the first female silversmith to achieve international fame. She moved to Paris upon completion of her studies, where she began creating "anti-status jewellery" characterised by fluid forms that drew inspiration from nature and catching the attention and acclaim of Picasso, Matisse, and Braques. Of the design, Torun said "Back then, watches were only chronometers – measures of time. I wanted to free people from the slavery of time. A watch should not make us prisoners of time, but liberate us," and, of her work in general, she "didn’t want to design jewellery for the wives of wealthy men to keep locked up in private."
