1950s "Netherlands" White Enamel Panel Bracelet
$200.00
Description
DATE: Vintage, c.1950
Vintage panel bracelet featuring six white panels with gold and white enamel features. It dates from the 1950s, most likely Dutch due to it's two principal design motifs: windmills and ships. The hook and eye clasp connects with a small pendant with ornate floral design.
Dating back to the 11th century, Dutch windmills were used to pump water out from the flat areas below sea level - drastically increasing the available farming. Many historic windmills still remain in various locations in the Netherlands, however only a few remain in good form. The boats are most likely 'Platbodem', flat bottomed sailboats used to transport goods along relatively shallow canals and waterways.
