1930s Enamelled LONDON TRANSPORT Charm
$175.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1935
The iconic red and white roundel with blue bar through the middle has been used by London Transport (Transport for London since 2000) since it was incorporated in 1933, but the logo itself dates back to 1908. Originally devised by the Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL), the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) decided to unify the separately owned and managed London Underground, Metropolitan Railway, bus and tram services under the same branding - essentially laying the foundation for what was to become London Transport. The form, proportions, typeface, and colours were finalised in the 1930s, and have barely changed to this day. The charm dates from the 1930s, crafted in silver with an enamelled front.
