1930's Briolette Amethyst & Diamond Earrings
$400.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1930
A stunning pair of Art Deco amethyst and diamond earrings, dating to the 1930s. The stones are a tear-drop shaped briolette cuts, approx. 10ct total, suspended from a simple minimalist gold chain featuring little diamond tops. The stones glisten wonderfully when the facets catch the light. Crafted in 9k gold throughout.
The earliest record of the briolette cut go way back to the 1600s, when Jean-Baptiste Tavernier returned to Europe from India with examples of the cut. They went out of fashion through the 18th and 19th Centuries, as more "advanced" cuts (precursors to the modern brilliant) came into fashion, however they came right back in during the Edwardian era, and remained popular until the 1950s.
