Description
DATE: Art Deco c. 1930
It's difficult not to smile when you gaze upon the jolly image of a chubby laughing buddha, with his merry grin and round belly... The laughing buddha is known to bring good luck, contentment and abundance to your life, but there are different postures of laughing buddha, and the seated one is considered the seat of love and symbolizes the balance between thoughts and tranquillity. He definitely has a distinctly different appearance from the lean and tranquil Gautama Buddha, whose teachings are the basis for Buddhism. It's believed that Laughing Buddha is a well-known Chinese monk from the Liang Dynasty (502-557 CE) who was on the path to Buddhism.
A cute little laughing buddha charm dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1930. It's modelled in alexandrite, shifting colour ever so slightly in different lights, from turquoise to a mossy green. He's sat upon a 9k gold base with a pendant loop.
