DATE: Vintage, c.1960

There are more than three dozen species in the family Paradisaeidae, also known as the birds of paradise. They're known for their striking colours, are are found in New Guinea and surrounding islands. David Attenborough's documentary "Attenborough's Paradise Birds" uncovers the story of how these 'birds from paradise' have captivated explorers, naturalists, artists, film-makers and even royalty! These birds are among the brightest- and often weirdest looking- birds in the world.

This piece, a magnificent Vintage brooch set with an array of gemstones. It dates from the 1960's, crafted in 18k gold and is set with a golden pearl body. It features a little gold feet perched on a branch and the head is white and yellow gold, set with brilliant cut diamonds and a striking emerald eye. With a swooping gold tail that's set with calibre cut emeralds and diamond, it perfectly represents the striking and colourful bird that's from paradise!
