DATE: Victorian, 1899

An elegant and beautifully constructed antique half hoop ring set with sapphires and diamonds and featuring an ornately carved gallery. Fashioned in 18k gold, it bears London hallmarks dating it to the year 1899 - towards the very end of Victoria’s (then) record-setting reign. Known in the trade as “carved half hoops”, these rings display deep, intricately engraved galleries usually employing scroll motifs that continue up to form the claws that hold the stones in place. This one’s set with alternating natural royal blue sapphires and bright old European cut diamonds.
