DATE: Victorian, c.1900

A gorgeous little Victorian Lucky Bean charm, crafted in 15 karat gold, suspended from a short gold chain - to be worn as a pendant or on a charm bracelet. It's set with a single ruby and dates from the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Lucky beans were popular throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, allegedly inspired by the "sea beans" that would occasionally wash up on European beaches after travelling on Ocean currents from far more exotic lands. The fact they could still germinate after (potentially) many years at sea suggested that they must be infused with powerful good luck.
