French Victorian Multi-Gem Dragonfly Brooch
French Victorian Multi-Gem Dragonfly Brooch
$18,100.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1890
A cool and oversized dragonfly multi-gem brooch, dating from the Victorian period, circa 1890. The wings are decorated with six sapphires and rubies, with small rose cut diamonds in-between. Further set with a single pearl and ten vibrant emeralds that graduate in size down the length of the body, a gorgeous combination of stones that perfectly match the colours of a dragonfly. It's French, crafted in 18k gold with silver settings, with brooch fittings but could also be worn as a pendant.
Dragonflies spend most of their lives as nymphs below the water's surface, and only exist as the dragonfly (that we know of) for six to eight months maximum. Because the dragonfly is only in its final form for a few months, they're a symbol of living in the moment and taking advantage of the short time given.
