Victorian Model of the Koh-I-Noor Diamond

$1,500.00

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1870

An antique replica of the famous Koh-I-Noor diamond, identical in size and cut to the real thing, and dating from the Victorian era circa 1870. The real thing is one of the largest cut diamonds in the world, weighing 105.6 carats, and currently part of the British Crown Jewels. The diamond is widely believed to have come from Kollur Mine, a series of 4-metre (13 ft) deep gravel-clay pits on the banks of Krishna River in the Golconda. This model remains in its original leather presentation box which features the words: "Model of the famous KOH-I-NOOR Diamond. Lent by L&C Hardtmuth". A fantastic Victorian curiosity.
