Victorian Lapis Lazuli Heraldic Griffin Signet Ring
DATE: Victorian, 1872
An exceptional Lapis lazuli signet ring with a cool heraldic crest - that of the de Barry family, who's ancestral seat is Barryscourt Castle in Ireland. Depicted is a Griffin's Head in profile above the motto: "Boutez En Avant", which is said to have been their battle cry. It roughly translates as "Bash your way forward", and, incidentally, was also the battle cry of Squadron A, the historic cavalry unit of New York City's Upper East Side. This antique ring is modelled in 18k gold, with Birmingham hallmarks for the year 1872.
