Victorian "I Trust And Am Content" Heraldic Signet Ring

Victorian "I Trust And Am Content" Heraldic Signet Ring

DATE: Victorian, c.1880

An interesting antique signet ring, the round head features an intaglio crest: a horse's head, winged, above a scrolled Latin motto "Confido conquieso", or "I trust and am content". This particular crest an motto belongs to the Tollemache family, of whom John was made Baron Tollemache, of Helmingham Hall near Ipswich in the County of Suffolk, in 1876. The ring is modelled in rich 18k yellow gold.

Incidentally, the English actor Danny Dyer was found to be a descendent of the Tollemache family (through his 11 times great-grandmother!!) when he appeared on the BBC documentary Who Do You Think You Are?

Head: 12.5 x 11.6mm - Width of band: 2.3mm

No marks present, tests as 18k gold

Excellent, with lovely antique patina - evidence of an old resize to the back of the band
