DATE: Victorian, c.1890

An antique shamrock brooch dating from the late Victorian era. The leaves are set with Connemara marble, a green stone also known as verd antique that's mined in the Connemara region of western Ireland, and, incidentally, isn't actually marble at all. It's actually a a serpentinite breccia and is the national stone of Ireland.
