Japanese Meiji Shakudō Vesta Case
DATE: Meiji period, c.1890
A fine example of Japanese Shakudō mixed metalwork. This vesta case is decorated with crabs and other sea creatures - in relief - above a kind of "crazy paving" backdrop. It dates to the late 19th Century, and has developed the most beautiful patina over the years.
