Georgian Portrait Ring "Amelia Frankland"

$1,500.00

Description

DATE: Georgian, c.1795

A stunning 18th Century portrait ring depicting Amelia Frankland (1777-1800), after John Hoppner's 1795 painting of Amelia and her sister Marianne. The ring is crafted from 18 karat yellow gold, and the miniature portrait is beautifully executed.

Tragically, Amelia and three of her four siblings died in their 20s; a memorial to them can be found in the Church at Great Thirkleby in Yorkshire, England. She was the second daughter of Sir Thomas Frankland, the 6th Baronet of Thirkleby - he was a member of parliament and an eminent botanist giving his name to the genus Franklandia.
