Georgian Memorial Ring to “General Loftus Anthony Tottenham”
DATE: Georgian, 1811
This superb Georgian mourning commemorates General Loftus Anthony Tottenham (1723-1811) of Wakefield. A prominent figure in the British Millitary, there are records of correspondence with John Vaughan during the time of the American Revolution. General Loftus and his nephew John contributed largely to the cost of the church in Wakefield, where he now lies in the church's vaults. This ring would have been given to a close friend or relative at Gen. Tottenham's funeral in 1811.
