Georgian Garnet & Diamond Sun Ring
Georgian Garnet & Diamond Sun Ring
$5,600.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1790
Glorious Georgian sun-like cluster ring dating from the late 18th century. The main stone is a circular flat cut garnet, with closed and foil backed setting designed to reflect light back out through the stone (still works perfectly 200+ years on). The halo of stones around the garnet are Peruzzi cut diamonds - an old old cut developed in the mid 17th century as one of the first "brilliant" cut (at a time when most diamonds were rose or table cuts). They're rectangular in shape with large angular facets displaying intense flashes and fire. A remarkable period ring, all original, and has survived two centuries in great shape.
