Georgian Diamond Navette “Rest In Peace” Memorial Brooch

This exceptional Georgian navette memorial brooch (with bail for wear as a pendant) features a hand-painted mourning scene: a grieving lady weeps in front of a plinth with the words "Rest In Peace" and a gold urn; an angel is flying overhead. There is a dedication on the back, to "Hugh Lewis Esq, ob 23rd Jan 1785 aet 31". The front is bordered by a line of blue guilloché enamel, and a halo of old mine cut diamonds - the back features a locket compartment. Offered in the original shagreen presentation box.
