Georgian Chased Heart Padlock Locket
DATE: Georgian, c.1800
This elegant antique pendant is modelled as a heart-shaped padlock, complete with a glass fronted locket compartment to the reverse. The padlock can be traced back through history at least as far back as Roman times, and in the Victorian and Georgian eras it was thought to protect the wearer from heartbreak. Or, in other words, it would keep your love locked down. The piece is modelled in 9k yellow gold, and finished with finely chased foliate detail.
