Edwardian Aquamarine Paste Cluster Ring

$450.00

Description

DATE: Edwardian, c.1910

A sweet antique round cluster ring dating from the early 20th century, circa 1910. It's set with paste gemstones designed to simulate aquamarine and diamonds, and crafted in 9k gold with silver settings. There was a time when paste gems could command as much (if not more) than natural gemstones, on account of the technology being so new and that the stones would be completely clear and free from inclusions. They're usually highly polished leaded glass, with minute amounts of metal added to give colour – the technique was perfected by Georges Frédéric Strass in 1724.
