DATE: Victorian, c.1840

An incredibly rare early Victorian winged man-in-the-moonstone brooch. The wings are set with rose cut diamonds, and it's crafted in 18 karat gold with silver settings. The moonstone face is one of the best we've seen: carved in high relief, with a da Vinci-esque hint of a smile. Dating from the 1840s, the quality is exceptional all round: craftsmanship, materials, carving.
