Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1840

Hypothesis: Love Conquers All. Evidence presented: here is love (Cupid) taming a lion. The detail to the hardstone cameo is particularly fine, a mark of an expert engraver, and it was crafted in the early Victorian period, circa 1840. With oval locket compartment at the back (hinged for easy access) it's modelled in 15 karat gold, the cameo secured in place by elegant twisted gold wire.
