Early Victorian Heraldic Intaglio Spinner Seal Fob

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1850

This attractive antique spinner fob is set with two carved stone panels: one bloodstone, the other carnelian agate. Each panel is carved with a heraldic crest, above Latin motto. The words read "VIVERE SAT VINCERE", or "To Conquer is to Live Enough". According to Fairbairn's Book of Crests, depicted is: "a savage's head affrontée couped below the shoulders", and was adopted by the De Moleyns family in England. Modelled in 18ct yellow gold.
