DATE: Victorian, c.1840
A charming flower cluster ring dating from the early Victorian period, circa 1840. Modelled as a pansy flower, each petal is set with a heart shaped gemstone- alternating amethyst (1.44ct total) and citrine (1.58ct total) with small old cut diamond points. Victorian jewellery often includes floral motifs, as part of their "Language of Flowers", whereby each flower or plant represented some romantic or emotional sentiment. In this case, pansy for thoughts. "I am thinking of you".
The stones' colours compliment each other beautifully, with open backed settings allowing the light to shine through them. The band, wide and textured is crafted in 15k yellow gold throughout and it remains in great condition.
