Art Nouveau OMC Diamond Swirled Gypsy Ring
Art Nouveau OMC Diamond Swirled Gypsy Ring
$2,500.00
Description
DATE: Art Nouveau, 1901
This ring is something of a hybrid in terms of style and period, artfully bridging the gap between Victorian and Art Nouveau. Stylistically it's a scalloped gypsy solitaire but with a literal twist: the claws are formed into a graceful swirl, met by similarly curved shoulder accents. The diamond is a slightly elongated .56ct old miner, wonderfully proportioned with high table and big open culet. The ring's crafted in 18 karat gold, and also features an interesting inscription to the inner band: "Mizpah / E.S. Muscroft / 10th August 1901" suggesting it was exchanged as a token of friendship and/or reconciliation. An altogether pretty unusual and interesting example.
