Art Deco Tri-Metal Diamond Bee Brooch

Art Deco Tri-Metal Diamond Bee Brooch

$1,000.00

Description

DATE: Art Deco, c.1925

A remarkable antique bee brooch dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1925. It's crafted in three-tone 14 karat gold (white wings, rose body, yellow legs) and bears Austrian hallmarks - horse head with W indicating Vienna assay office - only used between 1922 and 1925, shortly after the fall of the Austro-Hungarian empire. It's beautifully made, with veins etched into the wings, clearly defined abdominal stripes, and segmented legs. The bee features prominently on the heraldry of Manchester, our home city, representing Mancunians’ hard work ethic and the city being a hive of activity.
