Art Deco Diamond & Lapis Arrow Pin

Art Deco Diamond & Lapis Arrow Pin

$1,800.00

Description

DATE: Art Deco, c.1920

An incredible Art Deco arrow jabot pin dating from the 1920s (anyone else think it's crazy that these Deco pieces are now officially "antique"?) This one's quite unusual in that it's set with calibre cut lapis lazuli alongside rose cut diamonds. It's crafted in 15 karat gold with millegrain platinum settings, the finely worked feathers at the end detach from the main shaft allowing it to be worn on a lapel, scarf, etc.

These pins are named after the jabot, a decorative clothing accessory usually comprising a section of lace or cloth worn under the neck - a descendant of the 16th/17th century ruff. Introduced in the 1650s, jabots were an essential part of upper class fashion throughout the baroque period until the late 19th century when they fell out of fashion, surviving today mainly as components of various traditional official costumes: the white bibs worn by judges, church vergers, or Scottish highland dancers, for example.
